Kidou Senshi Gundam SEED (Mobile Suit Gundam SEED) is an anime TV series that aired from fall 2002-2003. The SEED universe (known as Cosmic Era) is the newest addition to the Gundam franchise, and spawned a follow-up series in 2004-2005 called Gundam SEED Destiny as well as a side story (Astray). It chronicles a war between the genetically-enhanced 'coordinators' of ZAFT and the naturally-born 'naturals' of the Earth Alliance. Main character Kira Yamato, through a series of events, fights with the crew of the EA's Archangel battleship to protect his friends - and ends up forced to fight his own best friend, Athrun Zala of ZAFT.
